Best Jobs for High School Athletes

By Sydney Newcomb

High school is a time in all of our lives where we try to save up money as much money as possible for college. For some of us it’s difficult to get a job due to sports, but there are still plenty of ways to get money! One of the most important things to remember when getting a job while being a high school athlete is to make sure it is flexible and fits your schedule.

Social Media:

One of the best ways to still play the sports you love and earn a little cash is social media. There are several social media platforms that allow you to become an ambassador for that company and earn money. One of the most popular is Chose Your Vibe- Arrive Alive. This campaign is to promote healthy choices when it comes to drugs and alcohol. All you have to do is post on social media several times a week with the Hashtag myvibeva, and you’ll receive a check for $200! What’s better than posting on social media and getting paid for it?! Weekend Jobs:

Being so caught up with school work during the day and your athletics in the evening sometimes the only time you’ll have to work is on the weekends. Although there are very few jobs that allow you to just work on the weekends, you could do things such as babysitting for local families, tutoring kids from your school, or finding a real flexible job. Some of the most popular jobs for high school students include waiter/waitress, grocery store employee, animal shelter worker, and retail worker. Of course you might not be able to sleep in until noon every saturday now, but you’ll be earning a little extra change!

Summer Break Jobs:

Of course summer is supposed to be all about fun, but being so close to college saving money is all most of us can think about. There are plenty of fun summer jobs out there where you can still get money while doing them. Whether you’re working in the great outdoors as a camp counselor, getting your tan on being a lifeguard, or sticking to the sports world and working at your local sports complex. All of these jobs allow not only to do some of the thing you love, but they’ll also allow you to have your own time during the summer months while earning some cash.

Local Botetourt County Business Looking for help:

Being a high school athlete myself I know  it can be a struggle finding a job, but the best thing to do is just get out there. Apply for jobs you think you’ll enjoy, don’t pick a job just for the money. There are plenty of local places out there looking for young workers with a smiling face. Several business in Daleville that are looking for help include Kroger, Ballast Point, The Glebe, and Pizza Hut. These are just several places in Botetourt that are looking to recruit some new faces willing to lend some time and a helping hand. If you’re looking for a job more suited to you, https://www.indeed.com/jobs?q=&l=Botetourt+County%2C+VA&start=10 is a great place to find a local job!

Being in high school is stressful enough, but adding sports AND a job on top of that take it to a whole nother level. Remember when looking for a job to not let it stress you out, have fun with it. Although you’re doin it for the money you’ll build relationships with co-workers and customers that will last a lifetime, so don’t take any of it for granted. What you thought was just a silly little summer counseling job your senior year might end up being the best summer of your entire life with the best people you’ve ever met.
